Handbook

This is the practical layer of Health Decisions for Families. The main book explains why, how to judge, and where the boundaries are; the handbook helps a family take the next step in a concrete situation.

Check red flags first

If chest pain or pressure, possible stroke signs, severe breathing trouble, altered consciousness, uncontrolled bleeding, sudden severe pain, severe allergic reaction, poisoning, serious injury, self-harm or suicide risk, pregnancy/postpartum warning signs, or another possible emergency is already present, do not browse slowly through the handbook. Call 911 or local emergency services, go to an emergency department, contact crisis services, or use another qualified local emergency pathway first. You can open Red Flags at the same time to help family members state what is happening.

Minimal Family Workflow

Do not start from the full tool directory. Build one small loop that can be reused:

  1. Red Flags: agree as a family on what cannot wait.
  2. One-Page Family Health Card: make one small card for the person most likely to need care.
  3. Symptom Action Guide: for everyday symptoms, sort emergency, timely visit, and observation.
  4. Doctor Visit Checklist: when it is time to see a clinician, bring the timeline, tests, medications, and questions.
